Lawan Angelique - Figurative Assemblage
mixed media figures ...or what I like to call... figurative assemblage
Two Europa Beauties
The figures I make range in size from 2 inches to 4 feet. Some are free-standing, jointed figures, some hang as wall pieces, and some can adorn the body.

All are one-of-a-kind.

I've developed my building and sculpting techniques over a period of ten years of trial and working with new media.

Sometimes I have a subject in mind, like when I'm designing a commission. Usually it's the materials that inspire me, or after completing a head, some figures take on a life of their own.

The materials I use are: vintage clothing, folk art fabric, designer knits, and silk; all types of wire, wood, glass, paper, wool, paperclay(tm), papiér maché, acrylics, silk paints, and pastels.

I enjoy sculpting paperclay, papiér maché, and wire. My cloth heads are needle-sculpted with no underlying molds. The size of the piece usually dictates what medium I use.

There's no end to the challenge and joy I find in this work. The opportunity for self-expression and learning is sometimes as frightening as it is fun.
